It's Oyster Season!

If you are new to the Lowcountry, then you are new to the concept of the winter months oyster roasts.  The Rusty Rudder at 3563  Rt 17 North has all you can eat oysters on Monday nights for free.   Yes, I said free.  But if you are up for hosting your own oyster roast, this is how you do it:

1.  Buy a bushel of oysters.  According to Mount Pleasant Magazine, you can get enough oysters to feed 4-7 people for about $32.00 from Mount Pleasant Seafood in Mount Pleasant.

2.  Clean the oysters.  The easiest way to do this is to put them in a laundry basket and hose them off with a garden hose.

3.  Then cook 'em!  There are a couple of options.  You can use a turkey steamer, or just place some tinfoil on a grill and roast them that way, or you can rent an oyster steamer from Mount Pleasant Seafood.  If you plan on holding weekly oyster roasts, you can buy the whole steamer kit from Ace hardware.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the Lowcountry flavor!
