Housing news for this week

Housing received mixed news last week as Housing Starts declined by 16.5 percent in April to 835,000 units annualized. This was below expectations and due in large part to a drop in apartment building activity. On the flip side, Housing Starts are up 13 percent from April 2012 to April 2013. In addition, Building Permits surged by 14.3 percent in April to 1.017 million units, well above expectations. (Building permits are a sign of future construction).
